Things to Do

The Beach

There are no more beautiful beaches in the country than the white sandy beaches of Alabama's gulf coast. In non-peak season, you can very easily walk right across Perdido Beach Blvd to the beach. The neighborhood (The Reserve at Cotton Bayou) has deeded beach access directly across the street via the lot to the west of the Island House Hotel. Many guests choose to park (at their own risk) at the Island House Hotel directly across the street and walk around either side of the hotel for beach access. There are several public beach access points within 1 mile that are also great options - the closest being the Cotton Bayou public beach access just down Perdido Beach Blvd to the west. The Alabama Point public beach access to the east just across the Perdido Pass bridge is a great spot for watching all of the charter and recreational boats go in and out of Perdido Pass. Shell Beach is another public beach access just to the east of Perdido Pass and as the name hints - is a great spot for finding sea shells.

Bayou Access / Kayaking

There is access to the Cotton Bayou at the end of Madison Ave next to Zeke's Marina. There are two 10ft kayaks on the rear of the house that are available for use in the Bayou. With all kinds of marine life as well as pelicans, seagulls, osprey, and even bald eagles, Cotton Bayou is full of wildlife and sure to be a treat for all nature lovers. Zeke's Marina right next door is always full of life. The entire Bayou is a wake-free zone, making it ideal for kayaking. Often times, dolphin will swim right up to the kayaks. There is a canal system directly across the way that is great for kayaking and offers views of many beautiful waterfront homes. Those that are exercise enthusiasts can even paddle down to Robinson Island, a popular spot to hang out in the summertime.

Pool

The neighborhood has a community pool in the rear of the house. As there are only 9 houses in the neighborhood, you will most of the time have the pool all to yourselves. Pool is 5ft deep at the deepest point and is swim at your own risk (no lifeguard on duty). There is a large shallow ledge that is great for babies and toddlers. The pool has several nice polywood layout chairs as well as tables and chairs.

OWA Theme Park and Water Park

Inspired by Southern small towns, Downtown OWA’s pedestrian-only streets are a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment! From big names like Paula Deen's to coastal favorites, there’s something for everyone in Downtown OWA.

Tropic Falls at OWA is a combination unlike anything the Gulf Coast has ever seen before! Enjoy 23 rides and attractions at the Tropic Falls Theme Park and explore a year-round tropical paradise in the Tropic Falls Indoor Waterpark with 75-foot-tall slides beneath a convertible glass roof. Just outside is the all-new wave pool, Big Water Bay, with surf simulator, Coastal Curl!

The Rollin’ Thunder rolls in as OWA’s largest and most thrilling roller coaster! Designed with daredevils in mind, the Rollin’ Thunder checks every box. Strap in, hold on tight and lift off! This coaster will have you twisting, turning, looping and dropping all day long.

Boat Rentals

Most marinas nearby (and also the Flora Bama) offer many different types of boat rentals including pontoon boats, ski boats, jet skis, and even off shore fishing boats. Rentals are either for a half or full day. Cruise around Cotton Bayou, Terry Cove, Ono Island, hangout on Robinson Island, or even make your way to Pirate's Cove for the day.

There are also many sunset and dolphin cruises nearby. There are 2 hour tiki boat cruises (pictured) next door at Zeke's that are always a hit. The tiki cruises are for up to 6 people, include a boat captain that is knowledgeable of the area, and are BYOB.

Shopping

Two of the best shopping venues around are located within minutes of the But Hut - the Wharf and the Tanger Outlets.

The Wharf is a one-of-a-kind outdoor shopping experience. There are many boutique-style shops as well as bigger name brands such as Shades. There is an entertainment district that offers grab-and-go food and beverages, including a Daquiri Bar. The Wharf also hosts the largest Farris Wheel in the south as well as an AMC movie theater.

The Tanger Outlets in Foley boasts hundreds of name brands at unbeatable prices. There is a food court conveniently located in the center of the outlets. The surrounding area in Foley also contains many more mainstream shopping options.
